Open a self-service coffee shop in Nuremberg

You get a turnkey self-service coffee shop: a kiosk, a coffee machine and a contactless payment terminal. In Nuremberg we start with the site: a U-Bahn station, a supermarket or another place that lots of people pass every day.

You pay for the site search only after you sign the lease with the landlord. Contract first, money second.

Coffee to go in Nuremberg: who buys on the move

Nuremberg is compact, and people get a lot done by U-Bahn or on foot. At the same time, many people commute every day between Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen: the U1 runs all the way to Fürth, and the S-Bahn and regional trains also connect the cities. Anyone changing trains in the morning has no time to sit down in a café. But they are happy to buy a coffee that is ready in a minute and can be taken away.

Most of these customers are found at a few large hubs. At Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof long-distance trains, regional trains, the S-Bahn, all three U-Bahn lines and the tram meet. At Plärrer people change between the U1, U2 and U3, and at Rathenauplatz and Friedrich-Ebert-Platz between the U-Bahn, tram and bus. Then there are the S-Bahn stations Nürnberg-Dürrenhof and Nürnberg Ost and the Zentraler Busbahnhof (central bus station). The U2 runs to the airport, and the U1 stops at the Messe.

The second group works in offices. In the Nordostpark many companies sit side by side, at the Business Tower of the Nürnberger Versicherung and the Bürocenter am Wöhrder See people work in large office buildings, and Siemens has several sites in Nuremberg. Office workers grab a coffee in the morning on the way from the U-Bahn and often another one after lunch.

The third group studies. The Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm, the Evangelische Hochschule Nürnberg, the Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg and the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg are in the city, and the Technische Universität Nürnberg is only just growing. Between lectures, students quickly buy a coffee and take it into the lecture hall. During the semester break there are fewer students, and we factor that in for a location in a university building.

Which coffee shop formats we install in Nuremberg

The indoor coffee shop is usually the right fit, turnkey from €6 425. It stands in a shopping mall, in the entrance of an office building, at a university, in a hospital or in the checkout area of a supermarket. Its customers are already in the building, so the winter cold does not bother it.

The outdoor coffee shop (from €10 709) works round the clock in any weather, needs no premises and has a vandal-resistant body. In Nuremberg it works well at Esso, Shell, Aral or Jet petrol stations, at a stop or in front of a shop in a residential area. You agree the spot with the owner of the space, for example the supermarket whose entrance the kiosk will stand by.

Then there is cold-drink: iced coffee, shakes and cold drinks for the summer. It pays off where lots of people are outdoors on warm days, by the Wöhrder See, in the Stadtpark or along the Pegnitz. We quote the price on request.

We decide which format suits your address after looking at the site and at how people move there. If you would like to sell something other than coffee, we will build a different vending machine turnkey: for ice cream, candyfloss, pizza or ready meals.

Where to put a coffee shop in Nuremberg

The map above shows places in Nuremberg that lots of people pass every day: stops, U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations, supermarkets, office buildings, hospitals and universities. Tap your district and see what is nearby. Below are the places where we start the search in Nuremberg.

Stations and interchanges

Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof, the U-Bahn stations Plärrer, Lorenzkirche, Rathenauplatz and Friedrich-Ebert-Platz, the S-Bahn stations Nürnberg-Dürrenhof and Nürnberg Ost, the Zentraler Busbahnhof and the Flughafen U-Bahn station. People wait for their connection here and have a few minutes, and everyone sees a kiosk on the way to the platform.

Shopping malls

Franken-Center in Langwasser, Mercado, Röthenbach Center, plus the shops in the Altstadt between the Hauptbahnhof and Lorenzkirche. The spot that sells best is the one everyone walks past: by the entrance, or on the way out after the supermarket checkouts.

Offices

Nordostpark, Business Tower, Bürocenter am Wöhrder See, Plärrerhochhaus and the Siemens sites. Do not count the companies in the building; count how many people go in every day, and look for a spot by the entrance or the lifts.

Universities

Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm, Evangelische Hochschule Nürnberg, Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg, Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg. You agree the spot in the building with the university, and it is quieter during the semester break.

Hospitals

Klinikum Nürnberg Nord, Krankenhaus Martha-Maria, St. Theresien-Krankenhaus, Klinik Hallerwiese, Cnopf’sche Kinderklinik. Waiting visitors and shift staff buy coffee here, at weekends too.

Near home

Langwasser, Gostenhof, St. Leonhard, Schweinau, Mögeldorf, Ziegelstein, Südstadt. A location by Aldi Süd, Lidl, Norma, Netto or REWE, at a stop or by a Packstation parcel locker has regular customers: the same neighbours every morning. We put it on the side of the street that people take to the U-Bahn in the morning.

Have you already found a free corner in a shopping mall or a spot at a U-Bahn station? Send us the address, and we will calculate the income for that exact site free of charge. If you do not have an address yet, we will do the search: we check the footfall, negotiate with the landlord and show you several options. You pay for the search only after you sign the lease with the landlord, and only if you like the site.

How much a self-service coffee shop in Nuremberg costs

A turnkey indoor coffee shop costs from €6 425 incl. VAT. Outdoor coffee shop: from €10 709. Cold-drink: price on request. Installation anywhere in Germany is charged separately from the price of the coffee shop.

The basic set includes a Kavil-branded kiosk with LED lighting, a Saeco or Jetinno coffee machine, a terminal for card and smartphone payments, Kavil brand design and telemetry. The final price depends mainly on the coffee machine model, and also on the options and the installation. Banknote and coin acceptors and a custom design can be added separately.

You pay in two parts, and only after signing the contract, which sets out the coffee machine model, the equipment, the amount and the deadlines. You make the prepayment after signing and pay the rest at installation. After that, each month you pay rent, taxes and the bank fee for card payments, and you buy ingredients and cups. You do not hand us any percentage of your sales.

What matters in Nuremberg

In the Altstadt, the buyers are different from those in the outer districts. Between the Hauptbahnhof, Lorenzkirche and the Hauptmarkt there are shoppers and visitors to the city, and many of them pass by only once. In Langwasser, Gostenhof or Ziegelstein, on the other hand, the same neighbour gets a coffee at the same U-Bahn station every morning. In the Altstadt the footfall is bigger, but so is the rent as a rule; in a residential district you pay less and rely on regular customers.

In Advent the Christkindlesmarkt on the Hauptmarkt draws lots of visitors into the Altstadt, and on trade fair days it is busier around the Messe. Those are good weeks, but we base the calculation for a location on an ordinary Tuesday in February, not on December. We calculate the income for each address separately, taking into account the footfall, the drink price, the equipment and the rent of that exact site.

What you need to launch

You need no business experience. We open turnkey coffee shops even for people who have never run a business: we train you from scratch, and from the day the contract is signed you have a personal manager. We help you with the bank account and the payment terminal step by step.

It all starts with a conversation. You leave your number, we call back, calculate the income for the site you have chosen in Nuremberg, put together the equipment package and show you the inside of the coffee shop on Zoom. This stage moves at your pace. You read the contract before you pay, and the countdown starts with the prepayment: it takes up to 30 days from then to the first cup. In that time we build the coffee shop in our own workshop, look for a site if you ask us to, and then deliver, install and set up the coffee shop.

Looking after the location itself takes about 15 minutes once every two or three days: topping up ingredients and collecting the takings. You can easily combine this with your main job. You see sales and stock levels on your smartphone, so you know when it is time to go to the location.

How much Kavil partners earn

Taras has a network of 3 locations in retail areas and busy walkways. After 5 months of operation it brought him more than €1 770 of net profit a month. Bohdan has 1 indoor location by an entrance: 80 drinks a day and more than €880 a month after 6 months. Vladyslav has 2 indoor locations with steady footfall: more than €1 480 of net profit a month after 5 months.

Kavil partners’ figures (December 2024), converted to euros. Results vary from location to location: these are examples, not a guarantee. Coffee prices, rents and costs depend on the site, so we do not carry these figures over directly. We calculate the income for your address in Nuremberg separately and free of charge.

Kavil franchise in Nuremberg: what you get

You buy the equipment, and the business is entirely yours: 0 royalties, so no monthly share of your sales goes to us. We roast our own coffee, and you buy our beans 25% cheaper than from competitors. We build the coffee shops in our own workshop, buy Saeco and Jetinno coffee machines directly, with no dealer markup, and you get beans, ingredients and cups from us with no middlemen. Thanks to telemetry, you see sales and stock levels on your smartphone every day.

The equipment comes with a warranty, and we write its term into the contract. If sales drop, we go through the figures together, and if the site turns out to be weak, we plan a move. If you change your mind or the location does not work out, we will buy back the equipment at 60% of its value; the buyback terms are in the contract. Would you like several coffee shops in Nuremberg at once? Ask about our wholesale offer: from 2 to 10 locations.

FAQ: a self-service coffee shop in Nuremberg

Can I put the coffee shop near my home?

Yes, if there is something nearby that draws people every day: a stop, a supermarket, a Packstation, a post office or a petrol station. In Langwasser, Gostenhof or St. Leonhard such a location sells coffee every morning to the same neighbours on their way to the U-Bahn. Tap your district on the map and see what is nearby. Then send us the address, and we will calculate the income for that exact site free of charge.

Can I open a coffee shop if I have a main job and no experience?

Yes. We train you from scratch, a personal manager supports you from the day the contract is signed, and we help you with the bank account and the payment terminal step by step. Looking after the location takes about 15 minutes once every two or three days, which combines well with a full-time job.

How much does it cost to open a self-service coffee shop in Nuremberg?

A turnkey indoor coffee shop costs from €6 425 incl. VAT. Outdoor coffee shop: from €10 709. Cold-drink: price on request. The final amount depends on the coffee machine model, the options and the installation. We set it out in the contract before you pay anything.

How long does the launch take?

Up to 30 days from prepayment to the first cup. The request, the calculation and the contract move at your pace, and the countdown starts with the prepayment. In that time we build the coffee shop, deliver it, install it and set it up.

Who looks for the site in Nuremberg?

Whichever you prefer. You can find a site yourself and send us the address, and we will calculate the income for it free of charge. Or you can leave the search to us: we check the footfall, negotiate with the landlord and show you several sites to choose from. You pay for the search only after you sign the lease with the landlord, and only if you like the site. There is no prepayment for it.

What happens if the location does not work out?

First we analyse the sales and consider moving it to a better site. If you change your mind or the location does not work out, we will buy back the equipment at 60% of its value. The buyback terms are in the contract, which you sign before you pay.

Do I pay royalties?

No, 0 royalties. Royalties are a monthly percentage of sales that the franchisee pays to the franchisor. With Kavil you buy the equipment, and the business is entirely yours.
